Soil moisture sensors
Soil sensors show how much water is available around the roots, so you can water by need instead of by habit.

Soil moisture at the depth of the probe. Depending on the model, also soil temperature and electrical conductivity (EC).
- Install the probe in the root zone of a plant that is typical of the area.
- Press the soil firmly around the probe. Air gaps give readings that are too low.
- Keep it clear of drippers, so it reads the soil rather than the water supply.
